Self-insured employers are swamped with health plan data from many vendors in their ecosystem. However, without a cohesive framework to integrate this information and extract actionable insights, vendor reports are often left to gather dust.
To drive significant improvements in health plan optimization, employers require more than just raw data – they need timely, integrated insights to enable informed decision-making.
The Challenge: A Fragmented Ecosystem
Many employers and brokers depend on various systems and vendors to manage their health benefits. Although each vendor might provide valuable data, the lack of integration and standardization among these sources frequently results in fragmented insights and a siloed approach to health plan management. This disjointed system hinders the ability to gain a comprehensive view of the health benefits ecosystem, thereby limiting the potential to make well-informed decisions.
The Solution: Integrated Data and Timely Insights
To overcome these challenges, employers must adopt a proactive approach to health plan management. Here’s what needs to be done:
Data Integration and Standardization: Develop a unified platform that consolidates and cleans disparate data sets from all health plan vendors. This will ensure that the information is accessible in a single, easily digestible format, providing a holistic view of the health benefits ecosystem.
Predictive Analytics and Insights: Harness the power of analytics to transform raw data into valuable insights. Prioritize and drive action by identifying actionable insights related to drivers in spend and utilization, detecting fraud, waste, and abuse, and guiding members to the benefits they need when they need them. For example, by utilizing predictive analytics to examine the relationship between pain medication usage and imaging data across a member population, we can forecast the likelihood of knee surgery. This allows us to identify individuals who may benefit from early intervention – and direct them to leading orthopedic surgeons, ensuring better care and outcomes.
Transparency and Accessibility: Ensure that insights are timely, transparent, and accessible to all relevant stakeholders to facilitate better communication and collaboration – leading to more coordinated and effective healthcare strategies.
By addressing the internal data dilemma through data integration and timely insights, employers can create a transparent health benefits ecosystem that not only improves the quality of care and health outcomes but also makes healthcare more affordable.
